You against Them, The Mirror and The Art
Misery, Sadness, Longing, Pain..it's all a part of being human.
You may think that the person sitting next to you in class will never feel sadness, or at least not in the same manner as how you feel. He is the most popular guy in school, he's so smart, so handsome, so outspoken, so cheerful and surrounded by friends. He even has a girl to put his arms around. But if you were with him as he goes home, lies down on his bed, closes his eyes and ponder, you would have been ashamed of yourself for then you'll know that you were wrong all along. By then you would have known all the struggles he is facing.
We all contend with something within us.
The difference lies with how we deal with it.
It's not like our life is always going the wrong way. It's just that our vision sees the wrong image. We have our vision of I, the one that we see in the mirror and the other I, or the one that's how we want to see ourselves. And how we want to see ourselves rarely differ from how the person standing or sitting next to us want to see himself. Our dreams live by the ideals. We want a nice life, we want a happy lovelife, we want a nice education, we want a recognized talent.....and the list goes on and on.
We want all that is idealistic.
But just like the Utopian society, such can never be achieved.
Where did all those notions come from then? I believe it's mainly from the works of Charles Parrault and the Grimm brothers. So, is it their fault or our parents fault that we are bounded by these fantasies of meeting prince charming and living in a palace with him? I guess not. After all, it has been a tradition. And for them, it is but a mere commencement of our learning. But driving down to one's subconscious, these fairy tales may in fact be the very reasons that we are so fond of having such imageries in our heads. Imageries about our lives, or about the frustrated lives that we can not really have.
What makes things much harder is the fact that we continue to build up this imagery in our subconscious as we watch romantic flicks, read fiction novels, listen to senti- music, and surround our walls with various arts. But art and reality can never be meshed into one. As one of my professors would say (rephrased) If we are to show what happens in reality, it would plainly suck. It won't be considered an art.
Couples would part ways and come back together after what we may now consider a lifetime. Love songs would be used to serenade women. Poetry is used to catch ladies' attention. And we fall for these...we all fall for it because of the beauty it presents.
What is art without the beauty?
But then again, what is life outside reality?
(hard to put things into simple words, whew! it looked like chaotic thoughts again...but it really isn't..I hope you get my point.)
